Estimate your weekly trash volume, choose the correct trash bag size, and get a suggested bag thickness based on your home, business, restaurant, warehouse, or cleanup needs.
Choosing the right trash bag is easier when you understand your weekly waste volume. A small kitchen or office may only need 13 gallon bags, while restaurants, warehouses, contractors, and cleanup crews may need larger 33 gallon, 40 gallon, 55 gallon, or 64 gallon bags.
Waste volume is the amount of trash your home, business, job site, or facility produces over a period of time. This calculator estimates volume using your bag size, the number of bags filled per pickup, and how many pickups happen each week.
For light daily trash, smaller bags may be enough. For commercial trash, food service, warehouse waste, outdoor cleanup, or heavier materials, a larger and thicker bag is usually the better choice. Using a bag that is too small or too thin can lead to leaks, tearing, double-bagging, and wasted money.
If your trash is heavy, sharp, wet, or bulky, do not choose only by gallon size. Bag thickness matters too. Light-duty bags work for paper and light office trash, while heavy-duty and contractor bags are better for demanding cleanup jobs.
